The Opportunity
The Able Seaman is responsible for the execution of the tasks as defined within this procedure.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
General Tasks:
- To perform Sea and Port Watch duties as instructed and to carry out maintenance work and other operational tasks as required.
Special Tasks:
- To familiarize himself with regulations and work procedures pertaining to tasks to be executed.
- To execute assigned tasks in conformance with work procedures and as instructed by the Duty Officer or Chief Mate.
- To execute assigned tasks safely, to the best of his ability, and to report hazardous conditions without delay to the Duty Officer or the Chief Mate.
- Work such as entry into enclosed spaces, hot work and work aloft shall not be undertaken without prior approval by the Chief Mate.
- To familiarize himself with all safety equipment and safety procedures on board.
- Take part in the safety culture on board.
Qualifications
- Relevant experience on Passenger. RO-RO/ cruise ship will be an add on
- Valid Seafarers Medical certificate
- Valid STCW courses
- Advanced First Aid an asset
- Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice;
- Excellent comprehension and command of the English language; (written & verbal);
- Reliable mode of transportation & valid class 5 driver’s license;
Working Conditions
- Repetitive, physical activity involved (walking, kneeling, reaching, lifting)
- Lifting light to medium weight (up to 20 too 50lbs)
- Exposure to environmental elements including extreme weather conditions
